A proposal is a very emotional moment, and the Galapagos Islands are a truly enchanting place to declare your love for another. Jessica and Bjørn tell us their story.
J: I was quite busy. It was a business trip, and I asked Bjørn to come with me. He was very enthusiastic about the activities and invited me to go for a walk on the beach. To be honest, I wasn’t very enthusiastic about his invitation for a walk. While we were walking, I couldn’t wait to return on board to continue my work. We were at Gardner Bay, a beach on Española Island in the Galapagos archipelago. Bjørn was acting weird – he looked nervous and stressed out. I asked him what was wrong, and he told me that he was stressed. He wanted to ask me something...
I was impatient and upset, and didn’t understand why he was so nervous. Suddenly, I saw him get down on one knee. At first, I thought it was a joke until I realized it was real. Bjørn had the courage to ask me if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. I got excited and was so happy!
After accepting, my first reaction was to look around and see if someone had managed to capture the moment on camera. I have declared myself a “selfie queen” because I love pictures!
B: I was really nervous, and Jessica didn’t want to go on a walk on the beach with me because she was quite busy working (this was a business trip), so I had to find a way to convince her to go for a walk. I asked her to take a break, but she didn’t want to spend much time on this walk. A little upset, she asked me why I was so nervous. That was when I got down on one knee and asked her if she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me. It was very special for me to see her happiness; I wasn’t expecting it because she is a strong and independent woman. Her reaction made me very happy.
Jessica is Ecuadorian and Bjørn is Norwegian. She lives in Oslo, Norway for half of the year. One day, Bjørn and Jessica originally connected through a dating app. They ended up chatting and agreed to meet later that day for a glass of wine. A few minutes before the date, Bjørn cancelled, promising to reach out the next day to see her, but that never happened.
Three months later, Jessica was in a bar with a friend. When she was coming out of the restroom, she found herself face-to-face with the person who stood her up months ago! He saw her approaching him and she, having had a few drinks by that time, walked straight up to him, pointed to him and said, "You asshole! You owe me a drink!" Bjørn, really embarrassed, quickly apologized and agreed, and bought her a drink. “We’ve been together ever since - it’s been 3 years!”
We asked them for some advice for people looking for love, and we hope their story inspires many others.
B: (laughs broadly) If you want peace and quiet, do not propose to a Latina! (I am kidding!) He remembers that one of the most important lessons in life is that a man always has the last word! And that is: “yes, my love!"
J: Remember that no one is perfect, but having a person who makes you laugh, who supports you unconditionally, who shows you their love through actions and stays by your side is worth their weight in gold, and is someone to be treasured. If you are looking for love, don’t seek for perfection – look for honesty and values that are in line with your own.
